Kanawha County Schools is proud to announce that Kenna Elementary has been named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. Kenna is one of three schools in West Virginia to receive this distinction this year.

“We are so very proud of Kenna Elementary for achieving this national distinction and congratulate all students and parents, along with the incredible staff,” said Kanawha County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Williams. “We recognize that this achievement takes work and dedication, and we should absolutely take a moment to celebrate as the learning within each classroom moves forward every day.”

The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed almost 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools, with some schools winning multiple awards. Schools are eligible for nomination after five years.

The Education Department recognized Kenna Elementary in the category of Exemplary High Performing School.

The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually Nov. 12 and 13. They will celebrate the 317 public and 50 non-public school honorees will each receive their plaques and flags via mail.
