Grade Level Plans
KCS Preschool
Preschool students will remain in the classroom with their teacher, ECCAT and Parent Assistant with scheduled support from Itinerant staff.
Preschool students will be provided breakfast, lunch and snack in the classroom using strategic, social distance seating.
Preschool students will attend Monday through Thursday. Friday will be for home visits or conferences.
Entrance and exit plans have been developed to follow social distancing guidelines;
Preschool parents will sign children in and out at the school entrance.
ECCAT will be available with sign in and sign out chart.
Home Visits / Conferences with parents will be scheduled virtual meetings.
Entrance and exits will be clearly marked throughout the building, as well as floor markings for social distance reminders.
School schedules will be adjusted to meet parent choice with eLearning or in person instruction. Schedules will vary from school to school due to parent choice.
KCS Elementary School
Elementary school students will remain in the classroom with support and special teachers going into the classroom
Dependent on school cafeteria capacity, elementary schools will ensure social distancing by using one of the following lunch models:
•Strategic, social distance seating;
•Establishing additional lunch periods
•Utilizing the “Eat in, Eat out” model (students alternate days eating in the cafeteria and in the classrooms)
Entrance and exit plans have been developed to follow social distancing guidelines:
•Breakfast will be a “Grab and Go” model and students will eat in the classroom
•Students will be dismissed 20 minutes earlier to allow additional time to dismiss
Classes in the hallway will be staggered to follow social distancing guidelines.
Entrance and exits will be clearly marked throughout the building, as well as floor markings for social distance reminders.
School schedules will be adjusted to meet parent choice with eLearning or Face-to-Face instruction. Schedules will vary from school to school due to parent choice.
KCS Middle School
Middle schools will incorporate staggered release times of students from classes, minimizing crowded hallways and transitions. Students will be scheduled to rotate as groups through their core class periods.
Related Arts classes will be on an A/B schedule. With students attending these classes on alternating days or weeks, which will reduce hallway transitions.
Breakfasts will be a “Grab and Go” model and students will eat in their classrooms.
Dependent on school cafeteria capacity, middle schools will ensure social distancing by utilizing one of the following lunch models:
•Strategic, socially distanced seating,
•Creating additional lunch periods,
•Utilizing the “Eat in, Eat Out” model (students alternate days eating in the cafeteria and in classrooms).
Entrance and exits will be clearly marked throughout the buildings, as well as floor markings for social distancing reminders.
Master schedules will be altered to accommodate all students, whether their parents choose face-to-face instruction or eLearning.

•High school student schedules will be created to promote social distancing
•Schools may increase number of lunch periods to promote social distance recommendations

Academic Expectations / Curriculum & Instruction
•It is very important to note and communicate that in any situation, in person, blended, or eLearning, all students will be held accountable for assignments. Teachers will grade assignments and provide feedback and post the grade. There will not be an option for extra-credit or assignments not counting.
•Our goal is that teachers in grades K-12 are able to create a blended learning classroom using technology so that they can easily go back and forth from in person to eLearning with as little stress and anxiety as possible all while providing students with engaging, standards-based instruction and also monitoring for progress.
•Students in grades K-2 do not have take-home devices, so in the case of a hybrid schedule or eLearning, paper packets that focus on the ELA and math will be developed by teachers for students to work on and return to school for grading. If students in K-3 have a personal device at home, they are welcome to use those during possible eLearning times.
•All teachers will report to school unless the Governor issues a stay at home order. If a teacher is teaching a class via eLearning, he or she will still be expected to work from the school. Students working remotely will have to adhere to the schedule of the teacher.
•There is a possibility, particularly in the high schools, that a teacher may teach some periods via eLearning and some in person. This will depend on the numbers of students who choose eLearning instead of in person.
•If a student chooses eLearning, he or she cannot change to in-person face-to-face instruction until the semester unless the numbers warrant it.
•Teachers K-12 will be required to use Schoology as their Learning Management System. The KCS technology department will only be able to support Schoology.
•Voluntary eLearning and in person blended learning training is available daily starting July 20 for all teachers. Daily webinars are recorded so that teachers can refer back or watch at their own leisure. Teachers can schedule appointments with the Learning 2020 team for “socially distanced” live professional development on the topic of their choice. Starting August 19, there will be required professional development that will also focus on teaching in a blended learning environment. Administrators will attend a separate training on how to monitor eLearning.
•Teachers are expected to provide students with engaging activities that are based on the standards whether we are face-to-face or online. Busy work and worksheets should not be relied upon to provide instruction. All instruction must include a component for assessment.
•Schoology “shells” based on the standards are being designed for grades K-8 by our teachers to provide a guide for teachers who are still learning how to provide engaging activities through Schoology. This will help teachers with pacing, instruction, and assessment.
•Microsoft TEAMS or Schoology Conferences will be available for teachers to use with students who may be utilizing eLearning. Students who have access to Wi-Fi will be expected to sign-on to conferences during the school day. Training will be provided to teachers in both TEAMS and Conferences if needed. Only MS Team and Schoology conferences are approved for KCS teachers and students to use for video communication and instruction.
