The West Virginia STARBASE Academy is a West Virginia National Guard youth program that provides an academic enrichment environment for public and private schools. The Academy incorporates a fast-paced and motivational curriculum of hands-on activities, tours, and experiments. The curriculum is tailored to help our schools address three important issues facing America's youth today: inadequate preparation in science, math, and technology; lack of personal direction; and substance abuse.
STARBASE is a five-day program scheduled one day a week for five consecutive weeks for a total of 25 academic hours. The program is open to all schools in commuting distance of the West Virginia Air National Guard in Charleston, WV. We reach nearly every fifth grade student in Kanawha County Schools. Our educational focus is mathematics, science and technology with an aerospace theme. The 130th Airlift Wing West Virginia Air National Guard, serves as our host unit.
