KCS Students Lead County-Wide Service Effort

Something special is happening in KCS and it’s being led by students.

The KCS Student Leadership Team has organized a county-wide community service initiative, bringing together schools from across the district to give back in meaningful ways. From donation drives and volunteer work to campus cleanups and community outreach, students are stepping up to make a real difference in their community.

Community Cleanups & Beautification

  • Andrew Jackson Middle School - Trash collection and campus cleanup

  • West Side Middle School - Campus cleanup and school safety improvements

  • Sissonville Middle School - Planting flowers and beautifying campus

  • Hayes Middle School - Spring cleanup at St. Albans City Park

  • Nitro High School - School-wide cleanup cometition

  • Cross Lanes Elementary School - Campus beautification project

  • Riverside High School - Campus Cleanup

Service & Volunteer Work

  • Capital High School - Volunteering at Ronald McDonald House and KCHA Animal Shelter

  • George Washington High School - Serving at Heart + Hand, Ronald McDonald House, and CAMC Hospitality House

  • Horace Mann Middle School - Food distribution and pantry support at local organizations

  • Dunbar Middle School - Nursing home visit with student-led activities

Donation Drives & Community Support

  • South Charleston High School - Ronald McDonald House donation drive

  • DuPont Middle School - Military care package drive (with feeder schools participating)

  • Point Harmony Elementary School - Pet supply drive for KCHA

  • Elkview Middle School - Humane Society supply drive

  • Andrew Jackson Middle School - JA Cards and backpack drive

Student-Led Initiatives & School Projects

These projects are being done at multiple schools across the county:

  • Hygiene kit assembly supported by local businesses

  • School cleanup and gardening partnerships (elementary schools)

  • School-wide projects connecting students across grades

  • Recycling competition (Nitro Elementary)
