Kanawha County Schools is proud to share that Jon Duffy, KCS Executive Director of Counseling, has been named the recipient of Mission West Virginia’s Power of One: Pathway Award.
Mission West Virginia announced this award during a recent luncheon, saying the award,
“Recognizes someone who consistently helps create pathways to reach and serve students.”
Jon Leads by Example
It was no surprise for anyone who knows Jon that he would win such an award, but KCS is proud that the community Jon works so tirelessly for is also seeing the impact he makes for KCS students and their families.
Jon works incredibly hard behind the scenes to make sure students are connected with the support they need. Whether that support is academic, personal, or tied to opportunities that help them succeed beyond the classroom.

Working to Remove Barriers for Students
Jon goes above and beyond to remove barriers for students and help open doors. His work reflects his belief that students deserve to feel supported, encouraged, and equipped with the opportunities they need to be successful in school and in life.
The Power of One: Pathway Award recognizes Jon’s willingness to say “yes” yes to partnership, yes to innovation, and yes to going the extra mile for young people.
The Mission that Started it All
Mission West Virginia is a nonprofit organization based in Hurricane, West Virginia. Since 1997, the organization has worked to transform the lives of youth and families across the state, with a special focus on supporting some of West Virginia’s most vulnerable populations. Its work is built on the belief that every child deserves a loving family and the opportunity to thrive.
THINK
One of Mission West Virginia’s flagship initiatives is the THINK Program, which focuses on advancing teen health across West Virginia. Since 2007, THINK has empowered more than 10,000 youth and adults in more than 30 counties, helping them build the knowledge and skills needed to make healthy, informed decisions. The program uses evidence-based curriculum to address real challenges facing West Virginia teens, including teen pregnancy, substance use, mental health concerns, and other barriers to overall well-being.
For KCS, partnerships like the one with Mission West Virginia are an important part of supporting the whole student. They help connect students with trusted adults, meaningful resources, and information that can make a lasting difference.
Congratulations to Jon Duffy on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you to Mission West Virginia for its continued work on behalf of students and families across our state.
