Giving Students a Voice

Kanawha County Schools is excited to announce the creation of the KCS Student Leadership Team, a new initiative that gives students an active voice in shaping the future of their schools and communities.

Each middle, high, and career/technical school will select 1–2 student representatives who demonstrate leadership qualities, strong character, and a commitment to serving others. KCS encourages participation from a diverse group of students who bring varied perspectives and experiences to the table.

Student Leadership Goals

Members of the KCS Student Leadership Team will:

  • Collaborate on projects that promote belonging, wellness, academic success, and school pride

  • Model positive leadership, communication, and service

  • Strengthen student voice in KCS's future

Committed to Success

Students selected for the team will:

  • Attend meeting with KCS Administrators (virtual and/or in-person)

  • Participate in collaborative sessions

  • Serve as leadership ambassadors for their school community

  • Share important information with peers and gather student input

Ready to Make a Difference?

Students interested in applying should see their principal for an application. Completed applications are due on or before December 1st.

The KCS Student Leadership Team represents the district’s ongoing commitment to fostering belonging, encouraging student voice, and developing the next generation of community leaders.
