Dunbar Middle Launches New House Point System to Build School Pride and Connection
Dunbar Middle School kicked off an exciting new initiative this week designed to strengthen school pride, leadership, and student connection — the DMS House Point System.
Modeled after the nationally recognized program at the Ron Clark Academy, the DMS House Point System encourages friendly competition while celebrating kindness, academic effort, attendance, and positive behavior.
The House Quiz
Every student at Dunbar Middle took a short quiz to be placed into one of four houses — Protos, Amistad, Isibindi, and Altruismo. Each house includes students from all grade levels, giving 6th, 7th, and 8th graders the chance to build relationships and work toward shared goals.
Students can earn points for their house by showing acts of kindness, leadership, school pride, and strong academic engagement. The competition resets every nine weeks, with the top-scoring house earning a special reward. The winning house this quarter will take a field trip to Winterplace to go tubing.
School administrators say the program is about more than just earning points — it’s about educating, empowering, and motivating students by creating a fun and positive way to recognize effort and character.
"It’s about learning about pride, pride for our school. It’s about learning about teamwork." — Dunbar Middle School Principal, Abby Siggers
Sliding In for Kickoff
The school held a high-energy kickoff event to introduce the program, complete with house reveals, cheers, and even a giant inflatable slide. Students spent the day learning their house chants and connecting with their new teammates.
The House Point System is just one example of Dunbar Middle’s commitment to creating a supportive and engaging school culture — one that inspires students to lead, learn, and succeed together.
"I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun and having to connect with other grades because we’ve never done anything like that." — Khalis Wiley, Dunbar Middle School Eighth-Grader
