Kanawha County Schools is celebrating two outstanding educators who were recently recognized for their dedication and excellence in the classroom.

PE Teacher of the Year

Brooke Bias, physical education teacher at Overbrook Elementary, was named the Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by SHAPE WV. Known for her positive energy and passion for helping students grow both physically and emotionally, Mrs. Bias is admired by students and colleagues alike for creating an environment that makes movement and fitness fun.

At Alum Creek Elementary, Chet Lowther was named the West Virginia Art Education Association’s Elementary Art Educator of the Year. Mr. Lowther’s creativity, leadership, and commitment to nurturing young artists have made a lasting impact on his students and the entire school community. His lessons encourage self-expression, imagination, and confidence in every child who picks up a paintbrush.

Elkview Middle School's art teacher, Casey Aldrich, was named WVAEA Middle School Art Educator of the Year. Casey is celebrated for her devotion to creating dynamic, inspiring spaces where middle school artists grow in confidence and creativity. Her passion for art education helps students discover their voice and express themselves through their work.
