🚨❄️ KCS Dismissing Two Hours Early — 12/8/25

Due to an upgraded weather report and snow moving into the area more quickly than expected, all KCS schools will dismiss students two hours earlier than their normal release time today. All bus drop-offs will also be two hours earlier than normal. All Third Base Programs are canceled today.

We understand that weather-related decisions can be frustrating and raise concerns. Please know that these decisions are made using the most current information available at the time, including input from weather briefings and reports from our transportation and operations teams.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.

KCS releasing school two hours early today, Monday, December 8th, 2025 due to the weather.
❄️ Weather Update – Overnight Snow Possibility ❄️

We’re keeping a close eye on the weather tonight as snow is expected to move into the area sometime after midnight. Because of the timing, a decision about a possible two-hour delay can’t be made until very early in the morning.

If a delay is needed, families and staff would receive notification around 5:00 a.m. through:

- KCS FB Page
- Phone call & text
- KCS mobile app (push alert)
- WVDE cancellation page
- Schoology

We’ll continue monitoring conditions overnight. If you don’t see or hear anything from KCS in the morning, please plan on a normal start time.

Stay warm, and here’s hoping your morning alarm gets to do its job as planned! ⏰❄️

💙 Many of our schools operate food pantries to help students and families when extra support is needed. With more families seeking assistance right now, several schools are starting new pantries to meet the growing demand — and schools with existing pantries are continuing to accept donations.

If you’d like to help, please contact your local school—or the school you wish to support—to ask what items are most needed and where donations can be dropped off. Thank you, Kanawha County, for always supporting students. 💛

🎨 Edgewood students are painting their mark on Charleston! 💛💙

Something colorful is coming to the bottom of Edgewood Hill! The City of Charleston is creating a brand-new art piece that will spell out EDGEWOOD — and every single letter will feature artwork created by Edgewood Elementary students! 🌈

Each grade level painted their own vibrant sheet today, using different colors and styles. Those student-painted sheets will be used by Charleston’s Art Director, Jeff Pierson, to design each letter — making this project a true collaboration between Charleston and KCS students!

Even Mayor Amy Goodwin joined in on the fun and added her own brushstrokes! 🖌️😊

We can’t wait to see the finished piece — it’s going to be a bright, bold celebration of Edgewood’s creativity and community spirit! 💫

📣 Reminder for KCS Families

There will be no school for students on Monday, October 13th — it’s Parent/Teacher Conference Day! 🍎

Parent/Teacher conferences are a great opportunity to connect one-on-one with your student's teacher, learn more about how they’re growing, and hear ways you can support their success at home.

If you haven’t already, reach out to your student’s school or teacher to schedule your meeting. Every conversation helps strengthen the partnership that makes learning possible! 💬✨
