Our KCS COVID Case Procedure is available through the left navigation. In it you will find:
- The KCS-specific procedure used when there is a positive case of COVID-19 in a school or if there is an individual with symptoms in the building.
- The KCS checklist that principals submit to the district giving details of the specific school case. The checklist information informs district officials and the local health department as they make decisions in courses of action.
In addition, you may wish to review the West Virginia Department of Education's "Roadmap to Recovery" for updated guidance (2021) on COVID-19 in schools.
Each time there in is a confirmed positive staff or student case in a KCS school, we will first notify the affected classroom or group, as well as the whole school, about the case. If there is an update to the situation, we will still first notify the affected classroom or group, as well as the whole school, first.
To increase transparency, we will also be posting information (school of confirmed positive individual, date of confirmed positive notification, number of confirmed active positive cases at school, whether the school is open/closed) about confirmed positive cases in our schools. This page will be updated each afternoon.
Please refer to the guidance linked above if you have questions about the process. KCS works with the local Kanawha-Charleston Health Department (KCHD) in examining each situation. The KCHD contacts individuals who may have been exposed to a positive through their contact tracing process.
